DEAR FRIENDS: RE: 2021 PROGRAM OR TABLE PROMO INVITATION LETTER

We had another great summer (Although Unusual with the 2020 Virus) of gospel music, evangelistic outreach, Bible Education & Holiness Emphasis programs, here along the Jersey Shore. What a joy to share the saving knowledge of Christ found in Jesus by giving out the gospel message + encouraging believers, visitors, vacationers, and residents, on the Ocean Grove Camp Meeting Grounds.

POSSIBLE PROGRAM: Plans are in progress for the 2021 Summer Season, and we would like to know if you/your church or organization has a Music Ministry Program group of some type: Children’s/Youth/ Young Adult/Adult Choir, Chorus, Quartet, Singers, Praise Team, or other musical-type group which might like to present a gospel musical program here on the Ocean Grove Boardwalk.

POSSIBLE TABLE PROMO: AND/OR, perhaps you may wish to have an Outreach/Promotion Table on a busy Fri, Sat, or Sun, or Weekday, to promote your Christian Organization or Ministry; In between programs or during your program, having a brief 3-4 minute Ministry Promo Spot?

If you are desiring to present a program, we try to keep the programs to an hour, with occasional scripture, or testimonies; we appreciate your mentioning a short comment or statement or short message about salvation, explaining what the born-again experience is all about and/or sowing seeds so folks might be led on the right path or understand how to begin that walk; maybe using a verse(s) like: John 3:16, Acts 4:12, Acts 16:31, Luke 19:10, Mark 16:16, Ephesians 2: 8-9, John 14:6, etc...; possibly include some sing-a-longs/maybe bring song-sheets with your contact info on them?; we appreciate more traditional hymns and choruses and classical music in your programs; some groups do blended contemporary with original numbers; all contemporary selections don't really relate with our folks; we have also had some gospel puppet groups, clear gospel magicians, drama, comedians, etc...).

WE DESIRE A BALANCE OF MUSICAL STYLES, BUT IF YOU DO 95+% TRADITIONAL HYMNS ->> YOU GO TO THE HEAD OF THE LIST AND ARE PUT ON THE SECOND OR MORE PROGRAM(S) SLOT LIST... MY CONTINUING TERMINOLOGY FOR MORE BLENDED MUSIC GROUPS, CALLED HYMNOLOGY 101.3.2.2... (3.2.2:  An idea or suggestion AND request to start off with 3 hymns, then other-contemporary or originals, then aim for 2 more traditional hymns in the middle, then other-contemporary or originals, then aim to close with 2 traditional hymns..., ). We want to have well-known traditional ORIGINAL gospel hymn WORDS & TUNES for all ages/experiences to appreciate. (On these Traditional Hymns: please ONLY use  TRADITIONAL  hymn TUNES & WORDS, without bridges to contemporary words/tunes or contemporary songs which then bridge to a hymn/partial hymn chorus).

ORIGINAL Hymn Words and Tunes can be found on the Internet, for your group to learn and review... for Ocean Grove.

The Boardwalk Pavilion is a covered, open-air facility with electricity, seating about 250 inside/200 outside (however audience numbers really vary according to vacationer schedules/weather, boardwalk/town activities, surf, etc..). All donations go to your group; beach passes may be provided for your singers and helpers. It can be a ministry-witness opportunity and a fun-day at the beach for your group.

Groups bring their own SMALL Sound Systems for comfortable volume balances; some use instruments, keyboards, tape/cd backgrounds, etc..; our preference is NOT for heavy base guitar or heavy drum sounds (maybe doing some selections without drums?), AND NOT miking of same; try some/more acoustical, with very little or no reverb; our aim is for clear words. I have available some small karaoke-type PA equipment in my car if needed.

We would appreciate hearing from someone/contact person for your group as soon as possible if you would like to participate. Please pass this form/email on to the proper person/committee for consideration. Please return the REPLY-FORM found below CIRCLING SEVERAL DATES/TIME SLOTS for me to juggle+confirm a date with you. We look forward to enthusiastic/evangelical/gospel-preaching/Bible-believing churches/organizations & individuals/performing singers or groups embracing same.

CONTINUING THIS YEAR: Times for Sundays: 2pm and 4pm. We would also like no drums and primarily traditional hymns on Sunday afternoon programs. It's more of a solemn Holiness Sabbath day for many faith backgrounds who are more traditional in their church services and formats; and they would appreciate more choral-type, hymn arrangements and pleasantly drum-free Sunday afternoons or evenings.

For new groups: please send me a copy of your church/organization/individual doctrinal statement of faith that you use, for our files. We use the trans-denominational statement of faith of the National Association of Evangelicals as a guideline, with some additional thoughts about our Scriptural Holiness tradition. (I can send one on request). (We are a more traditional gospel music ministry with a variety of music styles for all to appreciate and enjoy, but really not in tune with some of the entertainment-driven/"Emerging Church" promotional philosophies and emphasis that exist in christendom these days...; not appreciating "Prophetic Music" styles or "Word of Knowledge/Faith" practices with their heavy charismatic connections; please leave slaying of the spirit or tongues-speaking back at your home church location; desiring this series to stay more with our Holiness/Traditional roots, foundation, and purpose).

SOME NEW & REMINDERS: (1) Please keep all animals at home, the township has a NO Animals Policy for the Boardwalk & Beach from May through October. (2) For the COMFORT Of ALL, PLEASE NO SMOKING or VAPING In and Around the Boardwalk Pavilion and in all Pavilion seating areas. The township has a NO Smoking Policy as well.

A VOLUME REMINDER FOR THE 

BOARDWALK PAVILION FOLLOWS BELOW:

 

DEAR FRIENDS: Just a friendly reminder listed here on the: jerseyshoregospel.com website, for our new/returning groups, which may have lots/more & more sound equipment which can be over our volume limits (too loud); some groups are used to high-energy programs/services elsewhere. We’ve posted this “VOLUME REMINDER” and may have been sent in mailings to help you plan. (Any questions, please call/email me).

Due to concerns from attendees/some houses along the nearby streets of being too loud, we need to keep a comfortable volume at our Boardwalk Pavilion programs. We appreciate all of you, for without your programs the gospel wouldn’t be as clear for vacationers, visitors, residents, and our organization folks alike. The message of salvation has been offered in various styles and formats, and new believers join His family each year with their names now written in the Lamb’s Book of Life for all eternity. My request here is to offer suggestions, requests, and requirements to your Music/PA/Sound Crew to make note of. Perhaps you have some thoughtful suggestions or corrective ideas for us? After 38+ years of programming, sound equipment advances/changes have taken place. (If your group would rather not present a more mellow/ lighter drums/comfortable volume-type program at the Pavilion, I could forward your name to our youth director for consideration with their more “strenuous volume” beach & Youth Temple concerts). Overall, we request more of a mellow, maybe acoustical, non-blaring style/less steady-rock beat at the Boardwalk Pavilion.

Here are my suggestions to reduce volume in/outside of the Pavilion:

1) PA SYSTEMS/VOLUME: Please bring a medium or small PA system, (using monitor-size speakers, without blasting). Instrumental music or group voices usually carry without a need for amplification, but soloists and those speaking need to use a sound system for folks on the fringes, who like to sit there. We request NO surround-sound/base-speakers/sub-woofers or big-main driver speakers, which carry too far down the Pathway. Please try to face the speakers north+south and NOT directly west down the Pathway; Perhaps not raising speakers on stands? If you do not have monitors, use one speaker for a monitor, or bring the speakers closer together to hear your music. Please do not use heavy base controls, echo, or reverb, because the folks cannot hear/understand the words, especially the newer songs which they probably do not know yet. The sound bounces around a lot. We want folks to hear the words and music. Maybe use more treble and cut down the heavy base beat of tracks and music. Please NO loud music while setting up/tarring down; let’s run through 1-2 selections before starting, to check all things out/adjust as needed. If in doubt about a possible loud rock beat selection(s), please do not sing it. Just the voices/vocals through the mains works best.

2) DRUMS & GUITAR AMPS: Please do not mike drums or guitar amps. Perhaps do some selections without drums/base guitars for variety. We request the drummer do a less intense playing of them, perhaps with a lighter-type of drumstick/brush, use “hotrod sticks” , or perhaps bring a plastic screen which helps with a more acoustical/mellow sound? Try facing the guitar amps north & south or toward the performers, and not directly at the audience. This helps with volume/clarity. Please do not put drums + guitar amps through the main or monitor speakers (unless an electronic drum, and then slightly...).

PLEASE RESPECT the person introducing you/overseeing the program, or other staff person, who asks you to adjust the volume. We have to answer to others after you are gone, and we want to be a blessing, respectful, and be able to continue this series til Jesus comes.
